How this desk works

Written to be checked, not just read

Every story here is dated, sourced and attributed, and the numbers on this page are counts of rows rather than estimates.

HOW THESE ARE REPORTED

Sourced, dated and linked

Where a story is based on someone else’s reporting, the original is linked at the TOP of the piece rather than buried at the bottom. Every story carries the date it was filed.

Corrections are visible

A corrected story keeps a dated note saying what changed. Silent edits are the thing this desk does not do — if the facts moved, the page says so.

Filters that admit when they are empty

Every count is measured with your other filters already applied, so the number beside an option is what you will actually get. Options that cannot narrow anything are not offered at all.

“Most read” is a real ranking

It is the page-view column, and it is the same figure printed beside each row — so the number explains the order rather than decorating it.

Freshness that means something

The date filter measures when a story was PUBLISHED, never when its view counter last moved. Sorting a desk any other way ranks whatever was most recently opened.

Opinion is labelled as opinion

An argued position files under Opinion and says so on the card. Reporting and commentary are two different things and are never mixed in one piece.

How often is this page updated?

Whenever the desk publishes. The counter in the header is a live count of published stories, not a target, and the “Updated” filter measures the publish date rather than the last time a view counter moved.

Where do these stories come from?

Every story is written or edited here. Where a report is based on someone else’s reporting, the original source is linked at the top of the story rather than buried at the bottom.

What do the counts beside each filter mean?

The number beside an option is what you will actually get if you pick it — it is measured with your other filters already applied. Options that cannot narrow anything are not shown at all.

Is “Most read” a real ranking?

Yes. It is the page-view column, and it is the same figure printed beside each row, so the number explains the order rather than decorating it. Stories with no views yet sort last.

Can I follow one topic only?

Pick a topic in the filter rail, or open its own page from the topic cards further down. Both give a bookmarkable URL you can come back to.

Do you correct stories after publishing?

Yes, and a corrected story carries a dated note saying what changed. Silent edits are the thing this desk does not do.
